Earth Hour 2008

"Two continuous posts relating to energy and environment!", some might ask. But this post is not the one to be missed!

Between 8 PM - 9 PM on March 29th, i.e. today, people from over 370 cities from 35 nations have pledged to voluntarily switch-off all their electric appliances as a small starting step against global warming, but a one that may eventually make the difference between survival and extinction.

Some might ask.. "Do we really need to participate in this, being without electricity for n-hours daily here in India because of the load-shedding?". The answer is a yes! Load-shedding is not voluntary! It's all about how much you really care for our planet and it's future.

Thus, I strongly urge all of you to participate in this global cause and as a starting step, sign up at the Earth Hour website by visiting http://www.earthhour.org or visit my Earth Hour profile page at http://www.earthhour.org/user/X2BA to pledge to do your bit towards the environment and see the difference you can make.

As of me.. See you during the blackout today!

  1. My savings for one hour:

    15 tube lights x 50 Watts = 750
    2 Desktop PCs x 300 Watts = 600
    1 Laptop x 40 Watts = 40
    1 Fan x 65 Watts = 65
    ------------------------------
    Total Savings (Watts) = 1455
    ------------------------------

    Thus power saved = 1.455 kWh = 0.077115 trees = 2.64373159 liters of petrol! :-D
